Message: Knowing the God that Is
Acts 17:22-31

Sermon summary: We aim in this series to introduce you to the Bible’s teaching about God’s being, attributes, identity and glory (known as “Theology proper”). In this series, will use scripture and the Baptist Faith & Message 2000 article on “God” to approach our study of God. In this message, we will begin with what makes God more than awesome: that He simply is.

1. The God that is (exists), is knowable!
Acts 17:22-25

*The beginning of the universe points to an all-
powerful, intelligent and spiritually personal
agent that caused it.

*Objective moral values and duties point to a
Personal being that is His own standard of
goodness.

2. The God that is (exists) has spoken! Acts
17:25-31

*We know about God by general revelation in
creation and the conscience. 17:25-29

*We can know God through the special revelation
of the Bible and the Person of Jesus Christ. Acts
17:29-31a

*You can know “The God that is” by personal
experience which comes about by faith in Jesus
Christ. Acts 17:31b; Hebrews 11:6
