Message: The God of Miracles – Defining the Miraculous
Hebrews 2:1-4
Sermon summary: The great Christian thinker, John of Damascus (7th century) defines providence as: “Providence, then, is the care that God takes over existing things.” Whenever we consider God’s providential work in our world, we can speak of what He does in general “through” the created order and what He specifically does “to” the created order. What God does “through” creation is called “ordinary providence”. In this message, we will begin to look at what He does “to” creation in “extraordinary providence” or what we call “miracles”.
1. Why God’s miraculous work matters to Christians. Hebrews 2:1-3
2. Defining what we mean by “miracle”?. Hebrews 2:4
3. Why it is good to believe in God’s miracle-working activity.
