8/1/21 Part 1: Why The Local Church Must Proclaim Sound Doctrine

1 Timothy 4:1-10

1. Many in the church will reject sound doctrine. 1 Timothy 4:1-5

*Paganism rather than God-centered truth. (4:1-2)

*Spirituality rather than sanctification. (4:3-5)

*Entertainment more than Godliness. (4:7a)

2. What happens when sound doctrine is rejected? When sound doctrine is once again embraced?

*First Stage: A lower view of scripture.

*Second Stage: A lower view of God.

*Third Stage: A lower view of truth.

*Fourth Stage: A lower priority on prayer.

*Fifth Stage: A decrease in evangelism.

*Final Stage: An exchanging of Christ for Christendom, then Mysticism, then Agnosticism and then Apostasy.

3. Marching orders about sound doctrine. 1 Tim. 4:6-10

*Preach it! Growth in Christ requires sound doctrine. (4:6)

*Keep at it! Combatting error requires sound doctrine. (4:7-8)

*Never quit! Evangelism requires sound doctrine. (4:9-10)
