Christ’s Supremacy Drives Christian Sanctification
Colossians 1:9-12
Sermon summary: Whenever we talk about “Christian sanctification” as experienced from what follows saving faith, we mean this: that process in which the believer is becoming more like Jesus in thought, word and deed. What is the driving motivation for desiring Christ- likeness (and thus, the pursuit of holiness)? Not guilt. Not duty. Instead, only delight in Christ’s supremacy can propel the believer forward in sanctification.
1. Sanctification’s aim: will of God. Col. 1:9
2. Sanctification’s activity: pleasing God. Col. 1:10
3. Sanctification’s ability: power of God. Col 1:11
4. Sanctification’s appearance: thanking God. Col 1:12
